AI for charities: where it helps grant writing and where it doesn't

AI is excellent at drafting and structure. It is not yet excellent at your organisation's authentic voice. Here's how to use both well.

Where AI helps

Research and shortlisting, first-draft structure, summarising evidence, rewriting for clarity and plain English, checking against funder criteria, and drafting reports from consistent data.

Where AI struggles

Authentic organisational voice, up-to-date funder criteria without a verified data source, beneficiary voice that only your community can give you, and the specific judgement calls only trustees can make.

Using AI responsibly

Publish an internal AI acceptable-use note, never paste personal data into public tools, and treat AI output as a draft your team improves — not a submission-ready answer.
